Filmmaker Brett Ratner appears in one of the thousands of Jeffrey Epstein related files released Friday by the Department of Justice.

One image shows Ratner holding the waist of Jean-Luc Brunel, a French model scout who was accused of supplying underage girls to Jeffrey Epstein and others.

Ratner, 56, is best known for directing the Rush Hour films.

Other Famous Names in the Files

The newly released documents include many well known public figures. Names mentioned include former President Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, and pop star Michael Jackson.

Being named in the files does not mean a crime was committed. Many people listed have denied any wrongdoing or improper relationship with Epstein.

Ratner’s Past Allegations

Ratner has largely stayed out of public view since 2017. That year, six women, including actress Olivia Munn, accused him of sexual harassment, assault, and rape. Ratner has denied the allegations.

Return to Filmmaking With Melania Documentary

Despite the controversy, Ratner is preparing for his first directing project since Hercules in 2014. He is directing a $40 million documentary about First Lady Melania Trump for Amazon.

Reports say Ratner followed Melania Trump in early 2024, filming her return to the White House. That footage will form the basis of the documentary.

The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on January 30, 2026, before moving to Amazon streaming.

Criticism From Television Hosts

The choice of Ratner as director has drawn criticism. On The View, host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she would not want a first lady working with someone who has that history.

She said the decision could distract from the film itself and made her unsure if she would even watch it.

Co-host Joy Behar responded with sarcasm, saying she would be surprised if the film had been directed by someone without allegations of sexual misconduct.

Trump, Israel, and a Career Comeback

Ratner has described himself as being personally un-canceled by Donald Trump.

Ratner moved to Israel in 2023 and has a personal relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump reportedly selected Ratner to return to the Rush Hour franchise. Rush Hour 4 is currently in development, with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker expected to reprise their roles.

The revival reportedly followed Trump’s request to his friend Larry Ellison, whose son David Ellison leads Paramount.

Jean-Luc Brunel’s Death and Epstein Ties

Brunel was found hanged in his prison cell in 2022 while under investigation for the alleged rape and trafficking of minors. He was 76.
