It happened again.
President Donald Trump stood before the world’s economic elite in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday and proved that maps are apparently just suggestions to him.
In a speech meant to impress “economic titans,” our stable genius managed to deliver a brutal gaffe that would make a fifth-grader cringe.
During an awkward 90-second portion of his address, the President confused Iceland and Greenland.
He didn’t just do it once.
He mentioned Iceland four times when he very clearly seemed to be talking about Greenland.
You remember Greenland, right?
That is the place he is currently trying to acquire.
NATO and The imaginary Feud
It seems the President is confused about who exactly he is mad at.
He started rambling about his relationship with our allies.
“I’m helping Europe, I am helping NATO, and until the last few days when I told them about Iceland, they loved me,” Trump said.
I am sure the people of Iceland are very confused right now.
He didn’t stop there.
One minute later, he doubled down on the error while attacking NATO again.
“I don’t know that they’d be here for us,” Trump said.
Then came the kicker.
“They’re not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. I mean, our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland’s already cost us a lot of money.”
Imagine blaming the stock market dip on a country that isn’t even the one you are trying to buy.
A Pattern of Confusion
If you think this was a one-time slip of the tongue, you haven’t been paying attention.
This is actually the second time Trump has made this exact mistake in as many days.
During a Tuesday news conference at the White House, he was already mixing up his icy landmasses.
“Iceland, without tariffs, they wouldn’t even be talking to us about it. So we’ll see what happens,” the President said on Tuesday.
Someone get this man a globe.
At Least We Aren’t Invading?
There was one tiny nugget of actual news buried in this geographical word salad.
The President finally clarified his stance on how he plans to get his hands on Greenland.
After being coy for a while about whether he would use force to acquire the territory, Trump stated definitively that he will not do so.
So, we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
He might not know where it is or what it is called, but at least he promised not to attack it.
For now.=
