As renewed attention falls on Jeffrey Epstein’s scandal in Washington, Ghislaine Maxwell’s family is pushing back—claiming she was wrongfully convicted and seeking intervention from none other than Donald Trump.

The Background

Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate and girlfriend, is currently serving a 20-year sentence in Florida. In 2021, she was convicted of multiple charges, including sex trafficking, for helping Epstein recruit and exploit underage girls between 1994 and 2004.

Her charges include:

  • Conspiracy to entice and transport minors for illegal sex acts
  • Transporting a minor for illegal sexual activity
  • Sex trafficking conspiracy

Latest Developments

In a statement released Tuesday, the Maxwell family declared:

“Our sister Ghislaine did not receive a fair trial.”

Earlier this year, Maxwell petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review her case. Her legal team argued that a non-prosecution agreement Epstein secured in Florida should have protected her from related federal charges.

But on Monday, the Justice Department urged the Court to reject her appeal. Lower courts have already dismissed similar arguments. DOJ lawyers argued that the agreement applied narrowly to Epstein himself and didn’t offer broader immunity to his alleged co-conspirators.

Maxwell’s team says they’ll soon file a formal reply—and if necessary, pursue a writ of habeas corpus in the Southern District of New York.

Trump Pulled Into the Spotlight

Maxwell’s lawyer made headlines by invoking Trump’s name directly, saying:

“I’d be surprised if President Trump knew his lawyers were asking the Supreme Court to let the government break a deal.”

Neither the DOJ nor the White House have responded publicly.

MAGA Split on Epstein Saga

On Wednesday, Trump himself weighed in—slamming his “PAST supporters” for what he called falling for the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.” The remark comes as some Republicans begin questioning how the Justice Department has handled the Epstein-Maxwell investigations.

Meanwhile, Democrats are seizing the opportunity to spotlight the internal rift within the GOP.

Prosecutor Fired

In a surprise move, Maurene Comey—a federal prosecutor involved in both Epstein and Maxwell’s cases—was dismissed this week. She is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump has recently accused James Comey, along with former Presidents Obama and Biden, of fabricating Epstein-related documents—though he’s provided no evidence for the claim.
