It is always a delight to watch the reality distortion field over at Fox News glitch in real time.
That is exactly what happened when Democratic strategist James Carville went on Saturday in America.
He sat down with Kayleigh McEnany and decided to deliver some news her viewers definitely did not want to hear.
Carville didn’t just suggest Democrats might do okay in the upcoming midterms.
He promised a total disaster for the GOP.
According to him, we are looking at a “wipeout.”
The Numbers Don’t Lie (Even If You Want Them To)
McEnany tried to pivot to a gloom-and-doom New York Times op-ed by David Plouffe.
Plouffe, a former Obama advisor, wrote that “Democrats have no credible path to sustained control of the Senate and the White House.”
He even suggested that after census adjustments, a Democrat could win the “blue wall” and still fall short of 270 electoral votes.
McEnany clearly hoped this would dampen the mood.
But Carville, at 81 years old, wasn’t having any of it.
He looked right into the camera to warn the Fox audience.
“Frankly, it’s going to be a wipeout,” he told them.
He didn’t stop there.
“Your viewers need to know that the Democrats are going to pick up at a minimum 25 seats, maybe as high as 45.”
He even added that “In all likelihood, the Democrats will carry the Senate.”
Sorry, Kayleigh.
The “Economic Revival” Fantasy
McEnany tried to salvage the segment with the usual talking points.
She called Carville’s forecast a “bold prediction.”
Then she claimed an “economic revival” with dropping inflation would save the Republicans.
Carville’s response was polite but dismissive.
“Well, I guess anything is possible,” he said.
But then the conversation turned to the elephant in the room.
Or rather, the elephant threatening to cancel democracy.
It’s Just a Joke, Right?
Carville blasted Donald Trump for a comment he made to Reuters this week.
Trump apparently said, “We should even have an election” because he believes he has been so successful in his first months.
Naturally, the MAGA defense squad jumped into action.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed the comment was a joke.
McEnany, ever the loyalist, agreed.
She insisted Trump talks in “jest” and that we should take him “seriously, not literally.”
She even told Carville, “I think he might have said that just to trigger you, James.”
Ah, yes.
Threatening the foundational process of our republic is just a hilarious prank to “trigger” the libs.
Democracy Isn’t a Punchline
Carville wasn’t laughing.
He tried to find common ground, noting that “we got to have the election, right?”
But he made it clear that this isn’t funny.
“Every Republican candidate who ran for every office would be asked, are you committed to have an election in November of 2026?” he said.
He reminded McEnany that words from a President matter.
“That’s people have died for that,” Carville noted.
He pointed out that if you go to Arlington or any military cemetery, you see that “people died for free elections.”
He closed with a line that hopefully pierced the Fox News echo chamber.
“I don’t think that’s a joke in matter. Honestly, I don’t, and I don’t think you do either, Kayleigh.”
We can only hope she was listening.
