Remember when we were promised so much winning that we’d get tired of it?
Well, the only thing tired right now is the GOP’s spin machine.
CNN’s data wizard Harry Enten just dropped a reality bomb on Monday, and honestly, it is tough to watch.
Or hilarious, depending on where you stand.
Enten sat down with anchor Kate Bolduan to look at the numbers, and let me tell you, it is a bloodbath.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Enten pointed out that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has hit a new low in four separate polls.
Not one. Not two. Four.
He laid it all out on the screen, and the data from the pollsters is brutal.
According to AP-NORC, he is 26 points underwater.
NBC has him 22 points down.
Yahoo-YouGov shows a 20-point deficit.
And Quinnipiac puts him at 19 points below water.
Enten put it perfectly when he said, “So we’re ranging from -19 points, all the way to -26 points.”
That is not just a slump. That is a crater.
Is There Even a Bottom?
The funniest part of this whole segment was watching Enten try to find a floor for these numbers.
Spoiler alert: he couldn’t find one.
He told Bolduan, “You know, Kate, there’s this question that folks keep asking, you know, ‘Where is the floor for Donald Trump?’ And I’m not sure there is a floor, because if there is one, Donald Trump, at least in term No. 2, has just fallen through it to another low level!”
Imagine falling through the floor and just keeping on going.
That is the current state of the MAGA movement.
The Biden Comparison
Bolduan asked the question that probably stings the most for the current administration.
She asked how these numbers compare to Joe Biden at this point in his presidency.
Yikes.
Enten didn’t hold back.
“The bottom line is this: Donald Trump is setting new records for himself in term No. 2, setting new records for himself compared to where he was at this time in term No. 1. And he is doing worse than Biden, which is of course a comparison that Donald Trump does not want to be because we all know what happened to Joe Biden.”
Being doing worse than the guy you spent years mocking?
That has got to hurt the ego.
Losing the Middle
So what is actually driving this disaster?
It turns out that independent voters are running for the hills.
Enten explained, “Well, we’re talking about independents, we’re talking about independents. When you lose the center of the electorate, you lose the American people.”
He noted that back in term one, Trump was 17 points underwater with independents.
Now? Quinnipiac says he is 27 points underwater.
That is a ten-point drop with the people who actually decide elections.
Enten summed it up with a brutal truth bomb.
“I don’t understand how this works out well for the president of the United States. When you are 27 points below water, underwater, with the center of the electorate, with independents, you lose, your party loses.”
He finished by admitting, “At this point, I don’t really know who to even compare Donald Trump to because he’s just so low, and he’s so low with the center of the electorate.”
Sorry, boys.
It looks like the “silent majority” is actually just a very loud, shrinking minority.
