Lara Trump defended recent U.S. military action targeting Venezuelan port facilities, saying the strikes reflect the will of American voters and the government’s duty to protect public safety.
Speaking on Fox News on Tuesday, she addressed reports that U.S. forces struck boat loading sites in Venezuela used for drug trafficking.
Comments on Fox & Friends
After President Donald Trump confirmed the strike on a Venezuelan port, Lara Trump appeared on Fox & Friends, where she spoke with co-host Lawrence Jones about the escalation.
Jones described a series of events that led to the strike, including a phone call months earlier between Trump and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
“The president made a phone call with Maduro a few months back and pretty much gave him an option,” Jones said. He added that Trump warned Venezuela to stop drugs from being sent to the United States by sea, and that the situation had since escalated from strikes on boats to strikes on port facilities.
Jones also noted that some observers believe the next step could include strikes on land sites where drugs are stored.
“What the American People Voted For”
Lara Trump responded by framing the action as a fulfillment of campaign promises.
“Yeah, well, and this is what the American people voted for,” she said. “The number one job of government is safety and security of our people, right?”
She described the strikes as part of a broader effort to combat drug trafficking into the United States.
“And you’ve heard about the war on drugs,” she added. “This is the war on drugs in action.”
Focus on Cartels and Fentanyl
Lara Trump pointed to previous actions taken by the administration, saying President Trump designated drug cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations and classified fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction.
“And he said, don’t bring it here,” she said.
“And if you dare try to bring it here, we’re going to do exactly what you’re seeing on your screen right there.”
