“This Would END His Presidency” – GOP Congressman Says Trump Would Be Impeached Over Greenland

It turns out there is actually a line for the MAGA crowd.

Who knew?

Apparently, threatening to invade a sovereign territory mostly made of ice is where some Republicans finally decide to wake up from their nap.

According to an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska has some thoughts.

He says he would “lean toward” voting to impeach Donald Trump if the President actually tries to play Risk with Greenland.

Bacon told the paper, “I’ll be candid with you. There’s so many Republicans mad about this.”

He went on to say, “If he went through with the threats, I think it would be the end of his presidency.”

Wow.

So insurrection is fine, but purchasing a Danish island by force is the dealbreaker?

Sudden Bravery at the Exit Door

It is funny how courage seems to strike these guys right as they are packing up their offices.

Bacon is leaving Congress at the end of his current term.

Suddenly, he is feeling very chatty and ready to break from the MAGA herd.

He is not the only one finding his voice now that the political consequences are low.

Senator Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor on Wednesday to grumble about this potential Arctic adventure.

McConnell said, “It’s about whether the United States intends to face a constellation of strategic adversaries with capable friends — or commit an unprecedented act of strategic self-harm and go it alone,” McConnell said.

He also added that, “following through on this provocation would be more disastrous for the President’s legacy than withdrawing from Afghanistan was for his predecessor.”

You know it is bad when Mitch is comparing you unfavorably to the last guy.

The 4 Percent Club

The American people are also looking at this idea and asking for a refund on this timeline.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll out Wednesday dropped a hilarious statistic.

Just 4 percent of Americans back a military takeover of Greenland.

Four percent.

I am pretty sure more people than that believe the moon is made of cheese.

Gaslighting in the Oval

Meanwhile, the man in charge is doing his usual dance.

On Wednesday in the Oval Office, Trump got testy with a reporter who dared to ask about the invasion.

“It sounds like you would potentially acquire Greenland by force,” the reporter said.

Trump’s response was classic deflection.

“No, you’re saying that. I didn’t say it,” Trump said.

He continued, “You’re telling me that that’s what I’m going to do — you don’t know what I’m going to do.”

We might not know what he is going to do.

But at least we know Rep. Bacon might finally do his job if the tanks start rolling toward Nuuk.
