President Donald Trump is facing a backlash following new polling data on his administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
A Quinnipiac University poll reveals that a majority of U.S. voters disapprove of how the matter has been managed.
Why It Matters
Trump had initially promised transparency regarding Epstein’s files. The White House had announced a review and indicated that names and evidence linked to Epstein’s network would be published.
However, a memo from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI recently stated that there is no “client list” and that no further charges would be pursued.
In response, Trump has urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to release whatever she finds “credible” related to Epstein.
Despite his claims that the controversy is a “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” criticism continues to mount. This negative sentiment could have consequences for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections.
What the Polls Show
The Quinnipiac poll, conducted among 1,290 registered voters between July 10 and 14, found:
- 63% disapprove of how the administration handled Epstein files
- Only 17% approve
- 83% of Democrats disapprove
- 36% of Republicans disapprove
The poll had a margin of error of ±2.7 percentage points.
Broader Public Sentiment
A separate Economist/YouGov poll of 1,680 adults found:
- 79% of Americans want all Epstein-related documents released
- 67% believe the government is covering up evidence, including 59% of Trump voters
A Rasmussen Reports poll of 1,164 likely voters reported:
- 56% don’t trust the FBI and DOJ’s version of events
- Only 21% believe the government is being truthful
What Experts Are Saying
Mark Shanahan, a U.S. politics expert from the University of Surrey, said the Epstein controversy could be the main reason for Trump’s polling dip.
He explained that Trump’s base believed he would expose those involved in Epstein’s crimes. They also believed Trump had no involvement and saw him as someone who would uncover hidden truths.
Now, with no new revelations and the promised files still sealed, some in the MAGA movement are beginning to question Trump’s motives.
Trump’s Response
On Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bull****,’ hook, line, and sinker. They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
What’s Next?
It remains unclear whether Attorney General Pam Bondi or any federal agency will release additional information.
But the growing public frustration and internal party doubts suggest the issue isn’t going away anytime soon.
