Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner publicly broke with President Donald Trump Wednesday over his ceasefire agreement with Iran, calling it the most ceasefire-like thing she had never actually seen.
The skepticism surfaced on Faulkner’s program, The Faulkner Focus, as reports came in that Iran had continued striking Israel and multiple Gulf Arab states even after the agreement took effect.
“Boy, I gotta tell you, this is the least ceasefire-like ceasefire I think that anybody might have anticipated,” Faulkner said on air.
“Iran certainly doesn’t see it that way, obviously.”
Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst agreed the situation looked bad, but offered a defense of Trump’s position.
“The Iranians don’t appear very serious about this ceasefire agreement,” Yingst said.
“The president has offered them a good-faith opportunity, a window of two weeks to reach a broader agreement.”
Faulkner pushed back harder during a follow-up segment with retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral John “Fozzie” Miller, rattling off a list of countries now under fire from Iran.
“Iran is continuing to threaten all of its neighbors, and the list got longer,” she said, noting strikes on Kuwait and Israel in the hours after the ceasefire was announced, with the UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar added to the target list since.
“Those countries can’t just sit there and be patient for two weeks,” Faulkner said.
“They’ve got to fight, they’ve got to defend themselves.”
Miller was equally blunt in his assessment.
“I don’t think it looks very much like a ceasefire anywhere you look, other than we’ve stopped bombing in Iran,” he said.
Miller noted that the Gulf Cooperation Council states had been absorbing incoming fire for more than a month and were still taking hits.
He warned that a tipping point was near, predicting the GCC nations would soon stop waiting on diplomacy and begin mounting their own offensive operations in self-defense.
Retired U.S. Army General Jack Keane also criticized the agreement Wednesday, arguing that Iran remained firmly in control of the situation.
